Get to know the artist!
My name is Fae Kennedy. I am 24 years old and I have been tattooing since October 2022. I am a nonbinary/queer artist that specializes in illustrative blackwork. I’m partial to tattooing flora and fauna but I’m always looking to find new subject matter to challenge myself. I’ve recently been delving into more high contrast shading techniques while still keeping true to my illustrative style.
A huge focus in my career has been, and always will be, consent based tattooing. Every appointment I have, I try my absolute best to be a safe person for the client. I want all my clients to feel that they can ask questions, take breaks, and advocate for themselves and their boundaries. I realize how intimate tattooing can be and I want my clients to feel as comfortable as possible.
Outside of tattooing I enjoy exploring different mediums. So far, I’ve tried my hand at stained glass, wax casting jewelry, linocut stamp making, and photography, as well as painting, drawing, and sculpting. If it’s art related, I will try it! I’ve been commissioned to design t-shirts and band flyers, and I think it would be super cool to have my art on a wine label (but I have yet to figure that one out). In my spare time I like to draw mockups of houses I’ll never be able to afford and daydream about interior design, a passion I would pursue if I weren’t tattooing. Ideally, one day I’ll build my dream home on the coast and spend all my time in the garden, cooking delicious food for friends and family, and working on a project car. But for now, I love to walk through the Portland neighborhoods looking for inspiration.

FAQs
How much do you charge for a tattoo?
Each artist charges independently for their work.
Hourly rates range from $150USD – $300USD, with pricing available on a per piece basis.
We try our best to work with budgets. If you have questions about pricing, please call or email the shop (email has faster turnaround).
What is your process working in smaller projects?
Every tattoo design that comes to the shop is treated the same way – with respect. Size doesn’t matter here, only quality of product. We stand by our clients as they navigate the complex process of tattooing. We are here to educate first and foremost, regardless the project.
Who is behind Upshur Tattoo Company?
Upshur Tattoo Company was founded by research scientist and tattoo artist Rian Othus – a primary source of scientific and philosophical information, leading educational resource for tattoo artists and shops globally. The shop was started to help guide tattooing into a new generation which focuses on education and clientcentrism over mass-produced copy shops.
I’d like to meet my artist before starting a project.
Feel free to schedule a walk through to talk with artists or view the space before any money changes hands. Just give the shop a call and we will fit you in.
Can I apply to be a part of the team?
Absolutely. Email the shop with a short bio, CV, and portfolio. We will get back to you within a week’s time.
